TraCC - Translating Climate Change
Anthropological database on local terms for climate change
This is a phrase quoted from the Bible (Daniel 2:21), usually as "Deus mudará os tempos e as estações" (God will change the times and the seasons). This is the literal translation from the Bible verse, but I have also heard the quote said in reference to "tempo", meaning weather rather than time, in talk about climate change. Some traditional rain forecasters ("profetas da chuva") give this Bible quote as an explanation for observed changes or increased unpredictability of rainy seasons in Ceará, Northeast Brazil. When humans do not act in obedience to God, God will change things, such as the seasons, to remind people of his power.
